Q3 Theme: Personal Plastics Audit
July: Single-use Plastic Audit
August: Recycle the Right Way
September: Microplastics and Your Closet
It’s that time again! Summer’s in full swing, and #plasticfreejuly is upon us! This month we challenge you to join the #plasticfreejuly global movement where millions of people worldwide will work towards reducing their plastic waste. Together, we can forge cleaner streets, oceans, and communities. Focusing on your plastic use throughout the month will help you better understand your personal plastic consumption and introduce you to great alternatives that can help eliminate waste through July - and beyond!
the "WHY?"
Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year - that's nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population. Strikingly, half of that plastic produced is used to create single-use, disposable items. And at least 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year.
Join the millions of people reducing their plastic waste. Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.
the CHALLENGE
The habit of convenience is difficult to break. For July, push yourself to recognize your own plastic consumption. Be aware of the choices you're making that impact plastic waste. Plastic bags, straws, coffee stirrers, soda and water bottles, produce bags, to-go cups, food packaging, plastic cutlery, six-pack rings, wrappers... much of our lives are inundated with disposable plastics.
This month's challenge is all about reducing your plastic waste. Identifying all the single-use plastic you use, tracking how much of it is in your life, and making an effort week by week to cut down the plastic addiction.
We crafted a worksheet to help you on your plastic-free journey, which you can download below. Start this week by just tallying up how much plastic you use - then each week see if you can get those numbers lower. At the end of the month, hopefully you'll have created better, less plastic-dependent habits!
the POINTS:
At the end of the month, send us your completed (or not-so-completed) worksheet using the Submit Your Work Form and we'll add 100 Impact Points to your rewards.
Don't forget: You can always earn more points by picking up trash!
We award 40 points per pound of trash cleaned up (with photo evidence) - so get out there, clean up the planet, and earn some free Happy Earth merchandise!
